Douglas Housing Forum – Work/Study Committees

   
 


The City of Douglas has begun a series of meetings (or forums) to involve the community in planning for the growth that is affecting the community, particularly regarding housing. This effort is part of a larger effort involving Converse County and all its municipalities, who are working together to develop a coordinated growth management plan.

Converse County Together: Now and Tomorrow
Meeting: May 5, 2008 at CANDO, 130 South 3rd Street, upstairs, from Noon to 2:00 p.m.

The Douglas Housing Forum has begun to address specific housing topics, and a subcommittee has been formed for the major issues to be address:

Douglas Housing forum
Meeting: May 8, 2008 at CANDO, Best Western Douglas Inn from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Human Resource Needs

• Goal: Study the social impacts of a housing boom and identify needs, such as childcare facilities, mental health services, increased entertainment and recreational activity facilities.

Housing Infrastructure Analysis
• Chairperson: Parker Moore, (307) 358-3755
• Goal: Study water and sewer capacities, traffic patterns and other growth management issues.
Meeting: April 23, 2008 at CANDO, 130 South 3rd Street, upstairs, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Alternative Financing
• Chairperson: Dave Angiolillo, (307) 358-5600
• Goal: Identify other financial avenues for residential development financing.
Meeting: March 18, 2008 at CANDO, 130 South 3rd Street, upstairs, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Housing Needs Analysis
• Chairperson: Ron McNare, (307) 358-1853
• Goal: Gather data on existing housing vacancy rates, availability of platted and un-platted lands and existing zoning regulations for various housing and residential properties.

Housing Land Use Regulations
• Chairperson: Liz Batton, (307) 358-3660
• Goal: Review City of Douglas and Converse County development regulations and processes; identify current barriers; create recommendations to lower costs of construction; and recommend land use regulations to promote affordable workforce housing.

Meeting: April 1, 2008 at CANDO, 130 South 3rd Street upstairs, from 6:30 p.m.to 8:30 p.m.
