CANDO
Youth Work Experience Program.
A youth opportunity offered in 2003 and 2004. CANDO trained
TANF-eligible youth and located employment for them. Youth
were instructed
in
32 hours
of pre-employment training and, once a job has been
selected, the youth received 20 hours of job-specific training.
Employers
were reimbursed the students wages and related costs.
Project
C.R.E.A.T.E. CANDO developed a student-based technology “temp” service
that consisted of a design and maintenance team for web pages.
CANDO trained students to perform short-term projects for local
businesses.
Students were paid for their time, and gained valuable experience.
The program was nominated as a “Best Practice” for
School to Careers. This project ended September 30,
2002, but the youth
continue working on a similar project called C.R.E.A.T.E.

Youth
Leadership Programs. CANDO instructors and local
business and community
leaders teach and mentor youth to get involved in
the future of their community. The Douglas Alliance
for Youth (DAY) is an example
of
one program.
WyPAC. Working with the Wyoming
Press Association in 2002 and 2003, CANDO formed partnerships with
three Wyoming school districts
and three Wyoming newspapers to
develop a High School Journalism curriculum to
integrate State Education Standards with the expectations of the
Print Journalism Industry. The
goal was to develop a curriculum that would improve
the employability of graduates who wanted to pursue a career in Journalism.
Pre-employment and Leadership Camps. The Center also helps to prepare youth
for their first job, as well as
offers specialized camps to build
leadership skills in youth.
CANDO
Youth Business Camps. CANDO
has developed a residential camp
focused entirely on Youth
Entrepreneurship.
Students receive training on how
to start and
run a successful
business in Wyoming.
Trebuchet Camp. CANDO has developed a new program
that encourages youth to learn how to apply
some of
their scientific knowledge in a
fun, hands-on camp. During the camp, students
will assemble classic trebuchets (French catapults)
and learn to use
land survey equipment. If you are interested please call
358-2000.
After-Shool
Program.
CANDO ran an after-school
program for youth of various ages to enjoy during the 2003-2004
and 2004-2005 school years.
“Wyoming First” Pavilion. TANF graduates
are further trained to work at the state fair, selling Wyoming
products.
They earn a fair salary.
